Best Sushi Restaurants In Las Vegas

Las Vegas Sushi Restaurants Review
By Tim Phelan

The first restaurant is Okada at the Wynn. Okada is more of a Japanese restaurant that also serves sushi. They have Teppanyaki style cooks who cook at your table and are very entertaining. We decided to have the chef cook us a couple of dinners, but we also had sushi which was prepared in the kitchen. Both the Teppanyaki dinner and the sushi were excellent. The sushi specifically delicious and some of the best I have had. I ordered sashimi, a couple hand rolls and a specialty roll.

Before being seated at the Okada for dinner we enjoyed the bar to the left. The bartender, waitress and chef were all very attentive and pleasant. Overall, the experience at Okada was enjoyable and I will be going back. By the way, the price can be expensive, especially if you love to keep eating sushi.

The second Las Vegas sushi restaurant is a lot different from the first. It’s called Sushi Mon and is located on West Sahara Ave. It’s smaller and is frequently crowded so you may have to wait a while to get a table. It’s worth the wait though in my opinion. I got the All You Can Eat Sushi dinner and it was terrific.

One note though, you have sixty minutes to eat all you can eat. That’s usually plenty of time for me and in fact I usually am stuffed after half that amount of time. Once you are seated, the service is fast. The price when I was there was around $25 for the all you can eat. That’s very reasonable because the amount I ate would have cost two or three times that amount if I ordered the pieces individually.

Overall, although these two places are very different, I recommend both of these restaurants and give them four out of five stars.

Tips on How to Make Sushi

How to Properly Prepare Sushi
By Kenny Leones

Do you crave sushi but have a difficult time finding a good sushi place in your community? You can create your own since the ingredients needed are not that expensive and it is very easy to make.

MATERIALS NEEDED IN CREATING A SUSHI

The materials needed for this endeavor are nori (seaweed wraps), sushi rice, vegetables, sashimi grade fish, bamboo sushi mat, soy sauce and different kinds of seasoning.

STEPS IN PREPARING THE RICE FOR THE SUSHI

Remember to buy the right type of rice. Rice use for sushi is different from the standard rice that you can buy in your local market. To create your own sushi rice, you need to buy short grain rice.

Follow the cooking instructions indicated in the rice package. The short grain rice variety is the only type of rice hat will provide the stickiness that you will need when creating your masterpiece. Flavor the rice with seasoning after you are sure that it is thoroughly cooked.

Place a few tbsp. of Japanese rice vinegar in a pot together with a few tbsp of granulated sugar and two to three pinches of salts and heat it up. When the salt and granulated sugar completely melted in the mixture, your vinegar mix is now ready. Carefully pour the vinegar mix in your rice.

Place the rice from the rice pot into a wooden container or plastic container and then carefully spread it with a wooden spoon or spatula. The rice needs to be cool enough so that you can safely handle it and for additional stickiness.

STEPS IN CREATING A SUSHI

You can buy nori, which is also known as seaweed wrap, at the Asian deli or at a gourmet outlet. You can also buy it on online Asian specialty product stores. Carefully place the nori on the sushi mat with the more striking portion facing the bamboo mat. Wet both of your hands with H2O and evenly spread the rice onto the nori.

Arrange the sushi ingredients in the center of the seaweed wrap. You can use your favorite vegetables and fish. Cut the vegetables and fish thinly to bring out its flavor. Add some ginger to enhance the flavor of your masterpiece. Carefully pull the mat and roll the nori.

When you are finish rolling the wrap, wet the edges of the sushi to seal it. Cut the roll into numerous pieces. Use soy sauce for additional flavor. You can now enjoy your very own homemade sushi.

How to Improve Sushi Making Skills

Impress Others With Your Sushi Making Skills
By Serena Pulman

Many important things should be kept in mind before a person should begin to learn to make sushi at home. It is not necessary that you are able to make terrific sushi on your first try, as there is a lot to learn. For example, rice being the main ingredient seems easy to make, but should be mastered perfectly to make good sushi.

First of all, one should learn to make perfect rice, in order to make good sushi. Sushi rice is usually white, short-grained rice, in which vinegar is mixed to add a sour taste to it. Also, the rice should be sticky enough, but not too sticky as that would make a really bad-tasting food. So, it is necessary to learn to make perfect rice before making sushi at home. This way you can at least make vegetarian sushi easily.

You should also remember that to make it with raw fish cannot be made right away. Raw fish is usually checked and frozen, to kill germs, and make it safe for human consumption. Therefore, it is important that you learn how to handle raw fish and to freeze fish to make your eating safe.

Sushi chefs in Japan spend years to master the handling of fish and to professionally make it safe and to recognize important attributes, including smell, color and firmness. So, it is better to make vegetarian sushi at home to start with.

Another common ingredient after rice, is nori. A nori is basically a seaweed which has been dried and made into edible thin sheets. It is used as a wrap to form the base of sushi and must be unflavored and of high quality. A flavored nori, available with salt or flavored with teriyaki sauce, can alter the taste so it should be avoided.

Although traditionally, nori is on the outside but that is not the only way it is served. It can also be used on the inside of the sushi roll, with variations.

Futomaki is the most common type made at home, as it is vegetarian and traditional. It usually has two or three fillings which are complimentary in taste, and uses nori on the outside. It uses a bamboo sushi roll to shape the wrap, which is also a very useful tool for beginners who are learning to make sushi.

Sushi is a form of art, and visual aspects of serving sushi should be kept in mind. Sushi should look appealing and inviting, and make a person’s mouth water. You only need to practice to make good sushi.

Sushi Party on Budget

How to Throw an Extravagant Sushi Party on a Budget, Part 1
By V Udasco

We all know that in this economy, cash is hard to come by, especially during the holiday season. However, you can throw a great sushi-themed party no matter the occasion, and it’s more affordable than you think!

Why not host a sushi themed holiday dinner?! Trade that dry turkey and stuffing in for some great tasting and healthy sushi, and start a tradition of your own! For any occasion, sushi is a yummy and popular way to go…you can just throw a “We Love Sushi” party, too!

You will really impress your guests with your exotic menu and they will appreciate your unique theme. You can host a Sushi Party that your relatives and guests will be wowed by. Just don’t blame me when they beg you to throw a Sushi Party over and over again!

Hosting a party at home can be a very stressful and daunting task, especially if are cooking a full course meal for your guests. When planning any get together, you must do the leg work regardless of what is being prepared. However, these tips can eliminate your stress, while keeping more of your hard earned money in your bank account.

Planning Phase (can be done on the internet, from the comfort of your own home)

• Determine your budget. Having a limited budget, you need to get the most bang for your buck. This means you will have to find great deals and do a lot of the leg work yourself.

• Send out RSVP’s to determine how many people will attend. By knowing who will be attending, you will have a better idea if you should cater towards vegetarian sushi recipes, fish recipes or both. If the majority of people attending don’t feel comfortable with raw fish, you can prepare “cooked” sushi recipes (i.e. tempura roll, Philadelphia roll with smoked salmon, cooked shrimp nigiri, California roll, and etc.) and not as much sashimi or spicy raw tuna roll. You get the idea and besides, if you stay away from the sushi grade ingredients needed for sashimi, you will save money there, as well.

• Depending on your guests, if they are close friends or family and want to bring something, you can have them bring a side dish such as edamame (soybeans) or sake (rice wine) or even dessert, maybe a green tea ice cream. Many of these items can be found at major grocery stores and this could help to minimize your costs.

• Research various sushi recipes online, both hot and cold, cooked and raw, to start developing your menu. When developing your menu, select ingredients that are in season and grown or produced locally. By doing this, you will save on cost and ensure the freshest ingredients.

• Make a few calls to your local grocery chain or seafood market to see what fish is in season. Ask if they have any sushi grade fish and the price. Sushi grade fish normally has been frozen for a specific period of time to kill any parasites that might have been in the fish, i.e. according to minimum health standards -4 degrees Fahrenheit or lower for at least 7 days). Ask if they have any seafood on sale…you may even ask who their fish suppliers are to purchase wholesale, if you are buying a large quantity of fish.

• To learn how to make sushi, you can either learn via the internet, which is full of resources (YouTube is a great source!) or purchase a sushi book if you feel adventurous and don’t mind the mess. It will take some trial and error, and also practice, but you’ll get it sooner than you think!

• If you don’t feel comfortable making the sushi, you have another alternative. Ask family members of friends if they know of a Sushi chef that you can hire on a per hour basis to prepare sushi “live” at your event. Another great idea is to visit your favorite sushi restaurant and ask the sushi chef if he works private parties. In this economy, you won’t have difficulty finding a sushi chef at a decent price and since they are already in the industry, they may be able to get the ingredients at wholesale price for you!

By doing most of the leg work above, you can save between 30 to 50% of the cost of Japanese sushi restaurant. The savings can be put towards a couple of good bottles of Sake to toast with your friends.

If you are in Southern California, you are in luck! One of our sushi chefs can assist you with your sushi party!

What is Sushi House?

Sushi House – A Combination of Japanese and North American Sushi
By Serena Pulman

Have you ever heard about Sushi House? It is a series of restaurants in North America. The specialty of these restaurants is the recipes they provide. They serve different types of recipes like rolls, sashimi etc.

In addition to the conventional Japanese items, the Sushi House also provides conventional North American items to convince their North American consumers. They experiment with combinations of conventional Japanese tastes and North American tastes to form delicious North American Sushi items. One among them is the California sushi roll.

They provide simple and most requested sushi items, that are very low in cost compared to other restaurants. Hence Sushi House is a place for ordinary people to sit and have their food with peace of mind.

It is possible that you will like most recipes in Sushi House. If you have a doubt on the selection of a restaurant, you can definitely move there.

Even though the taste is very good, you have to be very careful in terms of overall quality of the product. These restaurants are mainly focusing on people who are looking for sushi food and low rate. Because of this, there is a chance to use poorer components for the preparation of food. They also cannot afford the cost of a well trained chef and mostly they keep inexperienced chefs.

You cannot expect graceful food, if you are planning to have food from a Sushi House. At ume sushi, you can expect the great taste of the food at a high rate.

A high value sushi food is available in genuine Japanese restaurants compared to other sushi restaurants. They stand out in the value of making rice, cooking of vegetables, and fish. They have their own style of presenting the meals for their customers. So rather than choosing a Sushi House, you can move towards a Japanese restaurant for a high value sushi food with high value and mouth-watering taste.

The style of conventional Japanese sushi has beaten even the hard to please sushi consumers. They have traditional combinations of flavor and colors that is not available in any other restaurants. The reason why people settle down at North American sushi restaurants is not only the low price, but the interest they have towards North American style of sushi. Those who want stylish California roll has to move towards a Sushi House, since the conventional Japanese restaurants and other high value restaurants will not provide these items.

The seafood lovers, who always love to try a variety of sea food, are always recommended to go to a conventional sushi restaurant rather than selecting a restaurant chain.
